Gauge-KC-Test Settings Parameters 2

Type of Test

This setting allows you to change the type of test. Do be aware that when you change your test type any questions you have will not be transferred over. You should change the test type before adding questions.

To learn more about the different test types, visit: Test Types

Basic Settings

The following are basic settings for your tests. These settings appear under the Basic Settings dropdown menu.

Type Descriptor Label - When used, the type descriptor is displayed with the content type to better define what a test taker/user is choosing to take or has taken – for example, you might use this to alert your users to the differences between practice tests, pre-tests, and final tests.(if you are unsure how to use this setting choose 'not used')

Is Activated - This checkbox activates and deactivates your test. By activating your test you are opening it up to your users and it will appear under the "Take A Test" tab.

Note: A test cannot be activated unless questions have been added to it - a test needs to be activated to make it available to users

Hide Options - You are able to hide a test from your users unless it is being used in a program and or you are able to make the test only visible to Superusers

Note: Hidden content is not shown to test takers on pages listing content to be taken. Program content is exempt from these settings – choosing to hide content included in programs forces test takers to navigate to this content inside the chosen program instead of independently outside the program.

Sort Order - When the sort order field is used, tests and other content displayed will be sorted by the value entered in the Sort Order field.

Lookup (and URL) code - Lookup codes are typically used to help admins lookup and find sections and attach them to tests, pre-tests, and exams. Lookup codes are also used as an advanced option to direct users to specific content using an embed the code in a URL.

Note: Lookup codes have to be unique. The lookup code field can only contain lower case characters, numerals. No punctuation and no spaces are accepted. If left empty when saving, the default value shown will be used.

URL - A URL will be displayed that can be shared to automatically direct a user to your test - as long as the user has the appropriate access to that specific test.

Note: Please Note These Important Details About URLs:

  • URLs begin with string HTTP.
  • Your browser might force the URL to span across multiple lines.
  • URLs CANNOT contain a blank space.
  • On your page, the URLs that span across multiple lines end at the start of the blank line. When you copy URLs from your page, make sure you get the entire URL if it spans across multiple lines.
  • When pasting into another application, remove any blanks or carriage returns added by your application.
  • When sharing URLs with your users, NEVER share a URL your browser is currently using.
  • Contact your GAUGE/test.com representative if you have any questions.

Special Behaviors - The special behavior type is used when displaying content and effects scoring. Use the default 'Regular' setting if you are unsure how to use this setting.

Delete Test

Under this drop down menu, you are able to delete your test.

Note: Once a user has taken a test or if a test has been used as part of a program, prerequisite or as a section, you will no longer be permitted to delete the test. Instead, use the Is Activated checkbox to deactivate the test, or you can put the test in a deactivated folder/category found in the Access menu - this feature is only available to Superusers.

Duplicate (and optionally Translate)

Under this dropdown menu, you are able to duplicate a test. When duplicating a test, you have the options to duplicate all questions, sections, and user access to the new test. Additionally, all of your settings will be transferred over as well.

You also have the option, if you chose, to translate your duplicated test in another language. This setting is useful if you have users across the world who need to take a test in their native languages.

Language and Country Settings

The language and country settings are used to help match a test with a language and country. The country setting also addresses such items as the local currency used if you are charging your users to take a test.

Media Panel Include Settings

Under the media panel dropdown menu, you can add media that your users will see prior to starting a test or throughout the test, independent of media that is associated with individual questions.

You have the option for the media to appear under the test description, on the start page, on a page before starting the test, and on top of all question pages. For more info on adding media visit the Adding Media article.

Cost and Charge Settings

If you have elected to charger your user to take a test, this option allows you to edit the amount you charge for that specific test. Charging for content is turned off by default.

Allow Coupon/Promotional Codes - Under the Manage Settings area of the application, you can setup coupons by choosing the creating/editing the Coupon/Promotion Codes menu option.

No Charge to Retake Behavior - Use this check box to indicate whether or not users are allowed to retake this test without being re-charged (within a 90-day window). Any successful and unsuccessful attempt limits will still apply.

If this checkbox is not checked, the User Cost Amount is used, unless a User Retake Cost Override has been entered (check this checkbox if there is no retake charge instead of entering zero in the User Retake Cost Override field above).

Purchase Attempt Count - (Optional) Typically a single purchase transaction counts for one attempt to take this test, therefore this value is normally set to one, even if you are using the No Charge to Retake Behavior above. Use this setting to increase the number of times a user can attempt to take this test for a single purchase. All successful and unsuccessful attempt limits will still apply. Adjusting this value AFTER a test is purchased and started will have no effect on the already started test, the value of this field at the time the test is FIRST STARTED is maintained for the purchase.
