As an administrator, you can set options for users that allow them to stop and restart or resume a test in progress if a test taker accidentally leaves the test, their computer crashes, or their Internet goes down. The restart setting allows a user to log back in within an approximate 45-minute window and the app will automatically get them back into the test without a time penalty.
If a test taker needs to restart after an extended period of time, you can accommodate for this as well. It is a best practice (even for high stakes tests) to turn this on. The feature has limits, such as limiting the number of restarts to one occurrence within one day. This will let your users restart a test, but it won’t let them exploit the feature such as letting them repeatedly stop/start the test.
You can find these settings under a test's options tab in the Taking Limits section.
What is the ‘’No Start New” Checkbox?
When in doubt, always check this checkbox. It prevents a user from restarting a new instance of the test (starting with a new question number one) instead of where they left off.
What if the Test has a Timer?
When a user stops or restarts a test, the timer always resets to the last time the user was connected to our server.
What is the “Stop Button" Checkbox?
Checking this adds a Stop and Restart button to your test. It advertises this, letting a user use this feature. If you only want a user to Restart a test for emergency purposes (like if they lost their Internet connection), then do not use this feature. If you’re OK with user coming in and out of the test, then check this checkbox.
Note: The following are the restart/resume limit options for this test. If this test is set up to use test sections (for question banks); the restart/resume limit options entries made in those individual test section records for this test will be ignored - only the following restart/resume limit options will be used to control this test.
